Hardwood Furniture Care…

Protecting your “heirloom quality furniture” from normal wear and tear of everyday use will help prolong the life and beauty of your investment.

Here are some do’s and don’ts we recommend…

CLEANING YOUR FURNITURE

For daily maintenance, use a clean damp cloth and then wipe dry. Use a soft duster such as a Swiffer or anything that is non-abrasive.  A non-wax polish or lemon oil can be used occasionally.

*We recommend our Furniture & Glass Cleaner (Step 1) and our scented or unscented Furniture Polish (Step 2). We offer these products in-store or we are happy to ship it directly to your home. Contact us for more details.

DO NOT use soaps, detergents, waxes or special cleaners including Murphy’s Oil Soap, this includes your kitchen dish sponge.

MOISTURE & LIQUIDS

If you spill something on your furniture, wipe it up immediately. This includes leaves that are stored under your tabletop. We recommend waterproof coasters and placemats for preventative measures.

DO NOT leave water or moisture for extended periods of time on the furniture it should be wiped dry or it can stain the wood. The finish is protective and is water resistant, but it is NOT waterproof.  Refrain from doing projects on your furniture involving any type of glue or nail polisher remover, this will damage the finish. It can be repaired but is not something covered under the warranty.

HEAT

We recommend you use trivets, table pads or any material that will not allow the heat to penetrate the surface directly.  We recommend dripless candles. Your table is heat resistant, but it is NOT heatproof.

*We recommend our custom-made Table Pads and Placemat Pads, that can withstand direct heat and help prevent scratches, dings and dents.  They are great for Holidays and Parties. They are not recommended to be left on for everyday use. Contact us if you are interested in purchasing a table pad.

DO NOT place anything hot directly on your furniture such as office equipment, kitchen pans and microwave dishes, moist heat from a pizza box or paper plate. Candle wax will also damage the finish. This type of heat will leave a cloud in the finish and is not covered under the warranty. We also do not recommend your furniture be positioned near a wood stove or fireplace as this is very drying and can create splitting and cracking.

SURFACE SCRATCHES

Surface scratches are normal. To help prevent this we recommend placemats, chair pads, and coasters or anything with a soft or fabric type backing, anything that is non-abrasive.

*We offer Table Pads and Placemat Pads, Touch-Up Kits and Table Refinishing. Contact us if you are interested in purchasing these items.

We do not recommend you leave any type of rubber, plastic, or vinyl coverings such as chair pads, they can adhere to the wood and damage the finish.

TABLE COVERINGS & ARRANGEMENTS

When having dinner or entertaining we recommend you use placemats and such as described above.  We recommend you let your table age for about a year or longer with nothing on it as preventative measures. Your furniture needs to naturally darken, breath and expand and contract.

We DO NOT recommend you cover your furniture for extended periods of time with glass tops, pads, centerpieces, potted plants, etc. Your furniture is made of a natural hardwood, direct and indirect light can leave a shadowing on surfaces that will leave a “suntan” type appearance which can be repaired but is not something that is covered under the warranty. We have found that Cherry Hardwood changes color VERY quickly.

TABLE LEAVES

We recommend you only leave 1 to 2 leaves in your table for everyday use depending on the overall size of your table.  Please contact our store for more information as to what we recommend.

When storing your leaves inside your table, be sure to lay them face up with the apron side down and carefully place them in the table as to not hit the dowels, levelers or locks.  If you do not have a leaf storing table, leaves should be stored face down with the aprons facing up, cover them with a blanket or something soft.

*We sell leaf storing bags that can be purchased in our store or shipped direct to your home. Contact us for more details.

DO NOT leave your table leaves set-up in your tabletop for extended periods of time especially with Single Pedestal and Trestle style tables. Gravity will affect the ends of the tabletop and damage the tracks. These tables are designed to be closed for everyday use. Sagging and gear track issues may occur over time.  Do not store your leaves standing up in a closet, this can cause warping depending on the climate in your home.

STORING YOUR FURNITURE

Store your furniture at room temperature. Your hardwood furniture is not intended for outdoor use unless stated on the order.
